Genetics
This is a system used to create a baby between two gemigons. A very basic understanding of genetics and punnet squares is required, though I will do the actual crossing myself. A baby gemigon can be acquired by purchasing a fertility potion with Ekym shards from the Ekym shop, or whenever breeding commissions are open.
Trait Rarity
The rarity of the baby's traits is decided by crossing the parents' trait genes. Trait genes are defined by C. Common traits are homozygous dominant (CC), uncommon and rare traits are heterozygous (Cc), and very rare traits are homozygous recessive (cc). Which gene comes through will be decided by a random generator. You can decide what specific trait your baby has, as long as it is the same rarity as the outcome. The gem should be somewhat similar to one or both of the parents.
Breed
The baby's breed is once again decided by crossing the parents' blood genes. Blood genes are defined slightly different than rarity genes. Runts are defined as having blood type 11 (D1), standards as blood type 12 (D2), brutes as blood type 13 (D3), and windrunners as blood type 23 (D3). Which gene comes through is decided by a random generator. In the event that the cross comes out to be 33, the baby will have the warrior gemigon mutation. If it comes out as 22, the baby will be standard breed if the parents are both standard. If not, the cross will be randomized again; if it comes out as 22 again, the baby will have a mutation.

Example
Pim and Jam have an egg! How exciting!
Based on their traits, we can find out approximately what their little bab is going to look like!
Based on their traits, we can find out approximately what their little bab is going to look like!
Pim and Jam have the following traits....
PIM
Peridot Gem (Uncommon) Cc Warlock Horns (Uncommon) Cc Inorganic Energy Gem (Very Rare) cc Backpoint Ears (Common) CC |
JAM
Amethyst Gem (Uncommon) Cc Nub Horns (Very Rare) cc Geometric Energy Gem (Rare) Cc Standard Ears (Common) CC |
After crossing their traits and using a randomizer to see which trait will come out in the baby, we can see that the baby will have the following traits...
Uncommon or Rare Gem
Common Ears
Uncommon or Rare Horns
Very Rare Energy Gem
We now know the traits, so lets find out what breed it will be!
Common Ears
Uncommon or Rare Horns
Very Rare Energy Gem
We now know the traits, so lets find out what breed it will be!
The cross comes out to be 12 (D2), so the baby will be standard breed, like its parents!
So, what do we do with this information? If this was your baby, you'd be choosing the traits you'd want to see! Let's use the wonderful Pim and Jam's baby as an example.
The gem can be uncommon or rare. I want it to be Jade, which is uncommon, because it is similar to Pim's gem.
The ears can be common. I want the ears to be back point.
The horns can be uncommon or rare. I want the horns to be ram horns.
The energy gem can be very rare. I want it to be a geometric cluster.
And there we have it! Pim and Jam are the proud new parents of a standard Jade gemigon.
